Going to Nara city from Osaka

When traveling to Osaka, it is common to visit Nara, Kobe, and Kyoto together, as they are all part of the Kansai region.
Today, I decided to visit Nara.

If take the Kintetsu Line Express train from Namba Station, can reach Nara city in about 35 to 40 minutes.
There are various ways to get Nara from Osaka.
Can take a train on the JR Line, but it takes a similar amount of time as the Kintetsu Line Express and is more expensive.

  • Kintetsu Line Express from Namba Station to Kintetsu Nara Station: 45 minutes, 540 yen (USD 5)
  • JR Osaka Rapid Express to JR Nara: 45 minutes, 780 yen (USD 6)
  • JR Namba Rapid Express to JR Nara: 35 minutes, 540 yen (USD 5)

If have the Kansai Thru Pass, can use the Kintetsu Line from Namba Station to Nara with the pass.
If take the Express train, can arrive in 45 minutes.
However, you need to differentiate between the “Rapid Express” and regular “Express” trains.
Even with the pass, there is an additional fee of 500 yen(USD 4) for the limited express Rapid trains, while no additional fee is required for other express or local trains.

In addition to the cost and time advantages, I recommend using the Kintetsu Line from Namba Station to Nara Station because it is closer to the city center and tourist attractions in Nara. From JR Nara Station, you need to walk a bit more to reach famous places like Todaiji Temple and Kasuga Taisha Shrine.
